The inbox psychology

The inbox psychology
How do you react when you find your
inbox jammed with messages every
morning? Have you taken a closer look on
how you reply to or fi le messages or noticed
what you choose to keep or delete? All
of these behaviors of
yours to deal with your
inbox actually reveal
your habits, your state
of mind and even the
way you have been
brought up.
Psychologists from
the US have concluded
recently that the state
of your inbox is a mirror
of your self. One one
hand, if your inbox is full, it may mean that
you keep your life cluttered. On the other,
if you obsessively clean your inbox every
10 minutes then may be you are one of
those moving so quickly that you’re missing
opportunities or ignoring nuances. Keeping
your inbox full could also indicate that you
are a person who wants to cling to the past
or you have a lot of unfi nished business
in your life while cleaning it within short
intervals indicates that your compulsion for
orders is using up your energy from other
endeavors.
Even response type
can be categorized into
two groups. While you
may feel the urgency
in responding to a
mail, others may be
too reluctant to revert
even after days. Some
even lie in between
these extremes and
Dinesh Desai
may get affected by
what is termed as “inbox paralysis”. It is a
state where you are aware that you need
to respond but have failed to do it. To deal
with a problem like this, experts suggest
solutions such as appointing an assistant to
reply on your behalf or use a template with
a personalized message.
